Charging plaza

The cars, motorcycles and scooters that we drive are polluting and noisy. Driving electric is the future – not only as carbon neutral transport as well as storage and transportation of renewable energy. Solar panels and wind turbines can sometimes provide too much and sometimes too little energy. By storing excess energy in the batteries of electric cars you can use it at a different time and even in another place. Floris Schoonderbeek developed several products to implement this idea.

For Allego and Industriepark Kleefse Waard (IPKW) he designed a smart socket-charging plaza : a charging plaza where multiple cars can charge. You charge at a small ‘smart socket’ that is easy to install and communicates with a large, central database. Within this charging plaza energy demand and supply can be cleverly distributed. The main charging square boasts charging capacity for no less than sixty electric cars. The charging square features charging stations which are particularly small in size and are run by smart technology. All charging stations have been stripped of their internal technology, with all of these housed in a central distribution box.

From there, current is distributed over the various cars charging using smart technology. How much energy is directed there is dependent on user demand, vehicle type and the number of cars charging at any one time.

With this square and the 70 other charging points at central locations in the park, IPKW makes sustainable mobility possible for its employees and visitors.
